Thank you for your interest in this new and innovative training program now being offered by the Maine State Police. The State Police Lateral Advanced Training Program has been developed to identify and hire highly skilled, motivated, and committed law enforcement officers to join the ranks of the Maine State Police. We are looking for the best law enforcement officers who want to work in a professional organization with over 100 years of keeping the citizens of Maine safe.
Our team has developed a streamlined process which delivers the highest quality and most advanced law enforcement training for current law enforcement officers. As a former New York City and Portland Police Officer, I understand the challenges of starting over in a new agency and believe the program we have created provides a smooth transition with excellent training to prepare for a career as a Trooper in the Maine State Police.
This new program recognizes you as a currently certified law enforcement professional. Our training regimen has been purposefully designed to treat you with respect and value the experience you bring to our organization while we get you up to speed on how our agency operates and maintains the highest standard of excellence. You will be trained in a variety of areas specific to our organization before completing a Field Training program and ultimately getting out into the Troops.
The training is mostly a nonresidential six-week program which will be held at the Maine State Police Headquarters in Augusta. This training will be conducted in a collegiate setting in professional attire or a provided uniform. There will also be offsite training at the EVOC and Firearms Ranges and scenario-based training at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy. Trooper Recruits will work a nine-hour day (0800- 1700) and provided a take home vehicle while attending training. Physical fitness training will be the responsibility of the Trooper Recruit and a passing score on the physical fitness test is a requirement to be admitted to the program.
This new program seeks to identify current law enforcement officers who meet the high standards of the Maine State Police. I encourage you to reach out if you are interested in joining our organization and being part of the largest and most dynamic agency in Maine. The opportunities at MSP are extensive. From where you want to live to the career path you choose, the State Police has something for everyone.
Please explore the website and links provided. A very rewarding and prosperous career awaits.
Stay safe,
